Top Mountains To Visit In North Carolina, USA

If you are like me, you will really enjoy this post. Do you prefer mountains or beaches? I love mountains and the calm and peace that comes with it is something special, that’s why in this post I’m gonna share with you “Top Mountains To Visit In North Carolina, USA”.

Mount Mitchell

Mount Mitchell, known in Cherokee as Attakulla, is the highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains and the highest peak in mainland eastern North America. It is located near Burnsville in Yancey County, North Carolina; in the Black Mountain subrange of the Appalachians, about 19 miles northeast of Asheville. Mount Mitchell, at 6,684 feet above sea level, is the highest point in the eastern United States. Located in the Black Mountain range of the Southern Appalachians, it is part of an intricate mountain system featuring some of the oldest and most complex geological formations on earth.

Mount Craig

Mount Craig, 6,647 feet, is the second highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains and second only to 6,684 feet Mount Mitchell in eastern North America. It is located in the Black Mountains in Yancey County, North Carolina. Mount Craig is the second highest peak in the eastern United States. Located on the crest of the Black Mountains, it is a truly phenomenal eastern peak. Not quite as high as Mount Mitchell, it stands prominently on the spine of the range. The peak has a lot of exposed rock and is home to some very rare and endangered species of plants and animals which exist nowhere else but the lofty elevations of the Blacks.

Clingmans Dome

Clingmans Dome is a mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina in the southeastern United States. Its name in Cherokee is Kuwahi or ᎫᏩᎯ, meaning “mulberry place, it’s elevation is 6,643.” What 3 states can you see from Clingmans Dome? On a clear day, you can see up to 100 miles including seven states from the top of the tower. (Clockwise: Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.) Even on a cloudy, “smoky” day, the view is breathtaking.

Mount Jefferson

Mount Jefferson is a mountain located in Ashe County, North Carolina. The mountain is part of the Mount Jefferson State Natural Area. The mountain has an elevation of 4,665 feet above sea level, and it sharply rises more than 1,600 feet above the towns of Jefferson, North Carolina and West Jefferson. History highlights. Mount Jefferson lies along the drainage divide between the north and south forks of the New River—one of the oldest rivers in North America and in the world. This drainage system had an important influence on the size and shape of the mountain.

Richland Balsam

Richland Balsam is a mountain in the Great Balsam Mountains in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Rising to an elevation of 6,410 feet, it is the highest mountain in the Great Balsam range, is among the 20 highest summits in the Appalachian range, and is the ninth highest peak in the East of the United States. Richland Balsam offers a wide, panoramic views over a stand of fragrant balsam fir. Nearby, the mountain’s true summit rises nearly 400 feet higher, covered in a mossy, sun-dappled spruce-fir forest filled with ferns. And while the views from the mountain’s true summit don’t rival those at the Parkway overlook below, the mountaintop offers a beautiful hike through a high elevation forest that’s most definitely worth the miles.
