Hello everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful day. Well, for those who didn’t know, I am Puertorican, borned and raised in the island but I moved to North Carolina, USA when I was 13 years old. I know a lot of people who would love to visit “La Isla Del Encanto”, that’s why in this post I’m going to share with you’ll some interesting fun facts about Puerto Rico, why you should visit “Borinquén”, and some places you can’t miss in the island.
Fun Facts About Puerto Rico & Its Citizens
Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island and unincorporated U.S. territory with a landscape of mountains, waterfalls and the El Yunque tropical rainforest. In San Juan, the capital and largest city, the Isla Verde area is known for its hotel strip, beaches… Its Old San Juan neighborhood features colorful Spanish colonial buildings and El Morro and La Fortaleza, massive, centuries-old fortresses.
Is Puerto Rico part of the United States? In 1898, following the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico was acquired by the United States. Puerto Ricans have been U.S. citizens since 1917, and can move freely between the island and the mainland. All persons born in Puerto Rico on or after January 13, 1941, and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, are citizens of the United States at birth.
Fun Facts About The Island: Puerto Rico is the world’s leading rum producer; 80% of the rum consumed in the United States hails from the island. There is a counted number bioluminescent bays in the entire world. Puerto Rico is home three bioluminescent bays. Puerto Rico is just a short plan ride away from many major US cities, who offer direct daily flights. Once you get here, getting around the island is easy, hop on a car in any direction and within 3 hours you would hit the farthest point.

There’s a lot of places and fun things to do in the island. In this post I’m just going to share 3 places but stay tuned because later I’ll be sharing more about Puerto Rico. But, here are some Puerto Rico travel tips to have in mind.
1. Crash Boat Beach
Crash Boat Beach or Crashboat Beach on the northwestern coast of Puerto Rico is situated in the municipality of Aguadilla. What’s special about Crash Boat? Its turquoise waters make this beginner diving spot ideal for snorkeling, swimming, and even surfing during the summer. Crash Boat’s vibrant scene has dubbed it the island’s party beach, where you can hear music, and hop around the kiosks and food stands that are lined up around the pier.
2. Guajataca Tunnel
Guajataca Tunnel is a railroad tunnel that connected the town of Isabela and Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. The tunnel is one of the most significant work of the remnants of the national railway system that connected the island during the first half of the twentieth century. The Guajataca Tunnel of Isabela was constructed in 1904 and it crosses the mountain that separates Playa Guajataca from Playa Mirador. In 2000, it was declared a Historical Monument and it is one of the most visited spots in this part of the Island.
3. El Combate
El Combate in Puerto Rico is located in Cabo Rojo and it is here that you can find the Cabo Rojo lighthouse and the salt flats. The name ‘El Combate’ comes from a battle fought over the ground between the locals and a neighboring town in 1759. Combate beach is part of the Boquerón National State Forest in Cabo Rojo and is a popular choice amongst locals. Its sparkling waters and large-scale reefs turn pristine shores into a paradise for diving enthusiasts. Preferred by younger crowds, this site is the ideal to enjoy the best sunsets in Puerto Rico.
