Fall in North Carolina is the busiest time of year. Asheville is a city in western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s known for a vibrant arts scene and historic architecture. The Downtown Art District is filled with galleries and museums, and in the nearby River Arts District, former factory buildings house artists’ studios.

Is Asheville pretty in fall? Because there is such a wide variety of elevations near town, Asheville enjoys one of the longest and most vibrant fall color seasons in the nation. The timing of the fall color change also depends on the species of trees and plants found in each area.

What time of year is fall foliage best in North Carolina? October. When Do the Leaves Change in North Carolina? If you want to see Western North Carolina fall foliage, your best bet is to come during a peak time. The peak color usually occurs from mid-October to early November. The trees at the highest elevation change first, and the trees in the low foothills change last.

Where is the best place to see the fall colors in North Carolina? The best Fall foliage in North Carolina can be seen via the Blue Ridge Parkway, especially around the Linn Cove Viaduct, Rough Ridge, the Pisgah Inn, and Graveyard Fields.

  • Blue Ridge Parkway – The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway and All-American Road in the United States, noted for its scenic beauty. The parkway, which is America’s longest linear park, runs for 469 miles through 29 Virginia and North Carolina counties, linking Shenandoah National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
  • Linn Cove Viaduct – The Linn Cove Viaduct is a 1,243 feet long, concrete segmental bridge which snakes around Grandfather Mountain in western North Carolina.
  • Rough Ridge Trail – From downtown Boone, it is approximately 30 minutes and 18 minutes from Blowing Rock. Hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway going south from either of these mountain towns and park at Milepost 302.8. You will notice Rough Ridge Trail’s starting point on the right side of the Rough Ridge Trail parking lot.
  • Mount Pisgah – Mount Pisgah Campground is located in the mountains of western North Carolina at an elevation of 4,980 feet, and offers moderate to cool temperatures during camping seasons.
  • Graveyard Field – Graveyard Fields is the name of a flat mountain valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. It is located in the Great Balsam Mountains.
